The short version:
- What you save about your friends is for you. There's no feed and no one browsing it.
- Closer never sells your information and never shows ads.
- If anything about how your information is stored changes, this page will be updated and you'll be told first.
Who we are
Closer is a friendship app made by Carrah Lingo. In this policy, “Closer,” “we,” and “us” mean the app and this website. You can reach us anytime at closerfriendship@gmail.com.
The Closer app
Closer is in early testing. In the current test version:
- What you save stays on your iPhone. Friends, updates, nudges, occasions, and tags are stored on your device. We don't have a server that receives them, and we can't see them.
- No account is required to use the test version.
- Notifications are created on your phone. Nudges and weekly previews are scheduled by the app on your device.
- Deleting the app deletes your data, unless you've exported a copy yourself.
Future versions of Closer will add accounts and cloud backup, so your information can be saved and moved to a new phone. Before that happens, we'll update this policy to explain exactly what's stored, where, and how it's protected, and we'll let you know in the app.
Testing with TestFlight
Testers install Closer through Apple's TestFlight. Apple shares some information with us as part of that: the email you were invited with, your name if you provide it, crash reports, basic device information (like your iPhone model and iOS version), and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send. We use this only to fix bugs and improve Closer. Apple's handling of this information is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
The waitlist
When you join the waitlist, you give us your name, email address, and what kind of phone you have. The waitlist is collected with Google Forms, so Google stores it on our behalf under Google's privacy policy. We use it only to email you about Closer, like when it's ready for you to try. You can ask to be removed anytime by emailing us.
This website
This website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people view. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects basic information, such as your browser type, general location, and how you found the site. We don't use ads, and we never sell your information. Like most websites, it's served by a hosting provider (GitHub Pages) and loads fonts from Google Fonts.
What we'll never do
- Sell or rent your information.
- Show you ads, or use what you save about your friends to target ads.
- Contact the friends you save in the app.
Children
Closer isn't made for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Your choices
You can edit or delete anything you've saved in the app at any time. To leave the waitlist or the test, or to ask what information we have about you, email closerfriendship@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change affects how your information is stored or used, we'll tell you before it takes effect.
